Self- assessment
My English skills have improved significantly since I finished high school. The biggest progress came when I moved to the United Kingdom and started working as a nanny, taking care of two young children. With the youngest one, I was essentially learning the language alongside him. This immersive experience helped me build a natural connection to the language, and I feel it was the most valuable part of my language learning journey.
Before this, I had never even considered studying English seriously, mostly due to my specific learning difficulties. However, as time went on, things somehow started to fall into place, and I am truly grateful for that.
At the moment, I feel most confident in speaking and listening, as these are the areas I've practiced the most. I still experience some challenges with reading and writing, but this is something I also struggle with in my native language, so it's likely connected to my learning style and difficulties rather than the language itself.
Currently, I am tutoring a man from India in Czech, and I explain everything to him in English. This experience has been very helpful for deepening my understanding of both languages and for building my communication skills.
In the future, I would like to focus more on reading in English, especially by reading books and articles regularly, to strengthen this area further.
